The Strange Labyrinth That Is Marketing

Recently I’ve had marketing, branding, and social media on my mind quite a bit.  I’ve been making dice bags for almost seven years now, and in that time, I’ve sewn literally thousands of them.  I’m good at it. What I’m probably not great at is the whole marketing aspect.  I’m going to talk about that a little bit.

I have no marketing experience, beyond the basics of “Put a cool thing on the internet and tell people about it”.  So far, it’s worked …reasonably… well.  I’m not saying that I, as Greyed Out, couldn’t use more sales – we could all use more sales, am I right? – but what I think I’m getting at is that I possibly should have considered getting a proper logo and some branding going oh, maybe five or six years ago.

Which leads me in part to today, where I’m sitting and wondering what kind of branding is appropriate for Greyed Out’s dice bags.  From asking around a little bit, the constant that seems to keep coming up is the sturdy worksmanship and high quality, and the great custom work. So maybe there’s something there.  I’ll continue to give it some more thought.

At the same time, I’m looking for ways that I can get a little more knowledgeable about marketing and branding in general… so if you, dear reader, have any helpful insight, that would be more than fantastic.  Greyed Out is still a one-man operation(literally me), so for now it’s going to be on me to do the bulk of the heavy lifting.
